9-year-old Amir Taylor has been upgraded from critical condition to serious condition at North Memorial Medical Center.
Amir was hit by a black Chevy Z-71 pickup on the evening of June 13 while riding his bike near the intersection of Kumquat Street and 111th Avenue NW in Coon Rapids. The truck fled the scene of the accident.
Investigators are currently processing a pickup truck matching the suspect vehicle description. The truck they seized was brought to a downtown Minneapolis garage just two days after the crash.
Lehman's Garage employees told FOX 9 the truck they received had a shattered window, damage to the driver's side door, as well as a broken mirror. The owner paid cash up front and wanted the repairs done immediately, but staff had a feeling about the pick-up and called authorities.
The Anoka County sheriff's office got a search warrant and towed the Chevy truck to its processing garage in Andover.
Cmdr. Paul Sommer said detectives have served a search warrant upon the registered owner, seizing multiple items, while crime scene investigators continue processing the vehicle. Results of the vehicle processing will take "a number of weeks, at best," Sommer said, and will likely take several months to be finalized."
A fund has been set up to help cover Amir's medical costs at any Wells Fargo location under the Amir Taylor Donation Fund.
