Sandusky's Defense: Personality Disorder To Blame

Updated:
BELLEFONTE, Pa. -

Jerry Sandusky's attorneys are now presenting their side in his child sex abuse trial.

They're arguing a personality disorder explains the charges against the former Penn State assistant football coach.

They say he suffers from "histrionic personality disorder." This means he seeks attention through provocative behaviors.

Defense testimony began Monday with character witnesses who defended Sandusky's reputation. One witness praised his work with the Second Mile charity. Two others, fellow football coaches, suggested in the sports world showering with kids is not unusual.

But an accuser's attorney pointed out this question in cross examination: "Would you shower – would you bring a youngster who you took for the first time someplace into the shower naked with you and then bear hug him? And the answer there was, 'no,'" attorney Tom Kline said.

The day's most emotional testimony came from the mother of Sandusky's final accuser. She sobbed as she described pushing her son to spend time with Sandusky.

The boy testified last week that he was raped in the basement of the coach's home.

Meanwhile, prosecutors asked NBC to release the entire transcript from Bob Costas' November interview with Sandusky.

The network aired unseen footage from the interview last week. It included a back-and-forth between Costas and Sandusky about his Second Mile charity.

Sandusky told Costas, "I didn't go around seeking out every young person for sexual needs that I've helped."

Reporters are not allowed to tweet inside the courtroom. But FOX 29's Bruce Gordon will be tweeting updates on the Sandusky trial whenever he can. Follow him @BruceGordon29 and tweet him any questions you have. Just make sure you use the hashtag #FOX29.
