Phillies Galvis Suspended 50 Games

Posted: Updated:

Phillies Second Baseman Freddy Galvis was suspended by Major League Baseball for 50 games Tuesday after he tested positive for a performance enhancing drug.  Galvis is recovering from a back injury and is out of the Phillies line-up.

Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. tells FOX 29 that he still believes in Galvis and endorses MLB's drug policy.

The Phillies issued a statement on behalf of Galvis saying "a trace amount of a banned substance, 80 parts in a trillion, was detected in my urine.  I am extremely disappointed in what has transpired.  I cannot understand how even this tiny particle of a banned substance got into my body.  Unfortunately the rules are the rules and I will be suspended."

The Phillies open a ten game home stand Tuesday night against the Colorado Rockies.
