First Day Of Summer To Be A Scorcher

PHILADELPHIA -

Wednesday marks the first official day of summer, and we're getting the likely start of our first heat wave of the year.

Temperatures are expected to hit dangerous highs, soaring into the 90s across much of our region.

It's going to be a hot one, but today is not even the worst of it.

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for much of our region. It lasts from this afternoon through Friday morning.

Philadelphia's Heat Line will be available today. You can call 215-765-9040 from noon until midnight today and tomorrow from 8:30 a.m. until midnight.

FOX 29's Stephanie Esposito was live along Kelly Drive on Wednesday morning with some tips to help beat the heat.

If you're breaking a sweat about what to do with the kids in the heat wave, bring them to the Please Touch Museum.

The museum is opening a brand new exhibit Wednesday centered around Rita's Water Ice.

Kids can wear mini uniforms as they practice their scooping skills from an Italian ice cart. Plus, Please Touch is unveiling its new signature Rita's flavor.

And for some adult-sized fun, country music star Kenny Chesney is coming to South Jersey on Wednesday night. He's holding a free concert in Wildwood.

The show will begin at 8:30 p.m. on the beach at Lincoln Avenue. City officials are discouraging people without tickets from coming to watch, but the show will be televised on YouTube.
