Police were called out for a robbery in progress just before 4 a.m. Wednesday at the Sunoco A-Plus at City Avenue and Conshohocken State Road in Bala Cynwyd.

The robbery was discovered by Sunoco Security by way of remote monitoring, police said, and video showed the robber and clerk leaving the store.

Arriving police officers found no one at the store and secured the scene.

It turns out the victim was abducted by the robber, who implied that he was armed, and the clerk was later dropped off in the area of Henry Avenue and Abbotsford Road. Police returned him to the store and said he was unharmed.

Police described the robber as being a dark-skinned black male in his late-20s to mid-30s, about 6 feet tall, wearing a white T-shirt, black shorts, a black baseball hat with a light-colored brim and dark sneakers.

Police said the robber's vehicle was described as a light-colored sedan, possibly a Ford, bearing a partial Pennsylvania tag which included the letters "HNN."

Surveillance images taken within the store were released to the public in hopes that someone can help police identify the robber.
