Posted: Updated:

The sweltering heat lasted past sunset, but even that couldn't hold back a sea of people at the beach in Wildwood, N.J.

SkyFOX was over the massive crowd as they sweated it out to see country music superstar Kenny Chesney play live.

FOX 29's Chris O'Connell was there, too, and streaming live with details on the entire event Wednesday night as Chesney played on stage in the background.

On the beach, luckily, heat wasn't too much of an issue, O'Connell reported.

For tens of thousands of fans with their toes in the sand and watching from the boardwalk, it was a perfect night. The hottest country star on the planet was playing a free beach concert on the hottest day of the year, so far.

Fans started lining Wildwood boardwalk early Wednesday morning to catch a glimpse of Chesney.

The 20,000 who were lucky enough to get free tickets piled onto the beach, while thousands of others grabbed any space they could find.

Hours outside at 91 degrees, the heat was too much for some. The medical tents were a busy place with complaints of heat exhaustion, dehydration and sunburn.

The line for drinks was up to an hour wait.

Luckily, by nightfall, the music started, the temperatures dropped, and it was clear Wildwood loves Kenny Chesney.

Police said before our 10 p.m. report that there had been no major problems or medical issues to that point.
