Westbound Pa. Turnpike Reopens After Tractor-Trailer Crash

Updated:

The tractor-trailer accident that closed the westbound Pennsylvania Turnpike on Thursday morning has been cleared.

The turnpike reopened between Fort Washington and the Mid-County tolls around 8:30 a.m., although residual delays remained in the area east to Willow Grove and west to the Northeast Extension. You may want to continue to avoid this scene for a while.

This morning's closure was due to the jackknifed tractor-trailer that left fuel and debris ont he highway, including some that spilled over on to the eastbound side, blocking the left lane.

By 6:45 a.m., the tractor-trailer had been towed away, and an hour later the fuel spill that had been blocking one eastbound lane was cleared.

Tie-ups were extending back to Willow Grove westbound and to Norristown on the eastbound side.

Motorists were advised to take Butler Pike or U.S. Route 1 as alternates.
