Fire Breaks Out At FAA Facility In Atlantic City

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -

There were some scary moments at the Atlantic City International Airport on Friday as witnesses tell FOX 29 they heard explosions.

The two-alarm fire was under control by dinnertime Friday at the airport. The fire started in the Federal Aviation Administration's technical center, leaving hundreds of workers waiting to get back inside.

Pictures from the fire taken by a viewer and sent to us show a heavy plume of smoke coming from the top of the building.

Many emergency vehicles responded as a precaution, but FAA officials say no one was injured.

We're told contractors were working on the roof when the fire started.

The blaze heavily damaged the roof of the administration building.

Crews from multiple fire departments helped battle the blaze for several hours.

Officials shut down a runway while firefighting equipment was rushed in. But by late afternoon everything was operating like normal, with the exception of the workers still not allowed back inside the damaged buildings, FOX 29's Dave Kinchen reported from the scene.
