PHILADELPHIA -

Philadelphia police have announced the arrest of a suspect wanted in connection with the shooting death of woman struck by a bullet as she attempted to flee from a running gun battle through her Grays Ferry neighborhood.

Shekinah Williams, 28, of the 2100 block of Sears Street, was arrested without incident on the 1600 block of South 16th Street Sunday, according to police. He had been identified as a suspect soon after the incident, but managed to elude police for two months.

Williams is thought to be one of two men who had been running through the streets and exchanging gunfire at each other shortly after 2:30 p.m. on April 20.

Clarice Douglas, a mother who had been living with her elderly mother, was shot in the head on the porch of her home and pronounced dead at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

In addition to Douglas, a second man had been shot multiple times during the incident.

Officials had offered a $5,000 reward in connection with the arrest of those responsible for the incident.
