Truscott grades House Republicans a "three" on "v" word mess

LANSING, Mich. (WJBK) -

John Truscott has done more than his fair share of political damage control over the years.  After all, he learned at the knee of former bull-like Governor John Engler who busted up more China than all the other modern day governors combined.

So when it came time for J.T. to check in on the job the House Republicans were doing on the so-called "V" word tsunami, another man might have headed for the high grass.

"A three," he assigned a lousy grade on the way those R's have handled this mess.  "And I'm being charitable," he laughingly confessed.

But nobody in the House GOP caucus is laughing although others, including John Stewart, the fake newsman, and others have had a field day at their expense.

Mr. Truscott was asked to check in on what the R's should have done?

For one thing, he thinks House GOP Speaker Jase Bolger (R-Marshall) should have shown up at the rally on the capitol steps last Monday night for a reading of the Vagina Monologue.

But what should he have said, "I'm sorry?"

Truscott opens, "It would have diffused it very quickly and made it go away."

But, don't hold your breath on an apology.  You know how wrenching it is for guys to say they are sorry.  Even now, eight days and counting into the story, it would help but many suspect the GOP leadership is just not up to it.

As for the censoring of Rep. Lisa Brown (D-Oakland County), who has reached celebrity status in the women's movement and now wishes she was running for something bigger than Oakland County clerk, Mr. Truscott says "censoring is a strong word" which belatedly Mr. Bolger and company have painfully discovered.

Given a chance at a Mulligan, J.T. suggests "they would have handled it differently."  No, really.

Fingers remained crossed in the bowels of the House GOP caucus that if they just keep their collective mouths duct-taped, this will go away.

The Democrats will try to make sure it doesn't.
