Condo Residents Say Landlord Is Cheating The System

Posted: Updated:

People who live at a condo building in Camden County New Jersey are dealing with a serious problem tonight.  They say their landlord is cheating the system, while their building slowly falls apart.

If you live in a condominium you rely on your neighbors to chip in monthly dues to pay for security, maintenance and amenities.

But when some of your neighbors stop paying everyone pays the price and some here say they're paying dearly.

We found landlord Michael Klein outside his Lakewood New Jersey home. But it's the 11 rental condo's he and his wife own at Cherry Hill's Barkley Towers, that we wanted to talk to him about. Specifically the $133,000 dollars in back maintenance fees he owes according to his condo association.

Building manager John Ross says Klien refusal to pay fees for years is now effecting the whole building.  24 hour security desk remains unmanned. There's no money.  Landscaping and other projects are on hold and the community pool for the first time ever is closed for the summer.

The association estimates Klien rakes at least $8,000 dollars a month in rent a lot of it in cash but pays back nothing.

When we asked Klein about it he didn't have much to say.

Klein hurried inside and quickly called police on us.  Meanwhile, fellow residents weren't as shy sending a message to Klein.

The association could take Klien to court but that also takes money the association doesn't have.

So right now as the fees add up the building and property values continues to go down hill.
