Problem Landlord Short On Occupancy Certificates

Posted: Updated:

There's new information in a FOX 29 investigation at a New Jersey condo community.

On Monday night, we told you about a problem landlord at the Barclay Towers in Cherry Hill, Camden County. Tenants say he's not paying his condo dues and, as a result, there's no guard at the front desk, and the pool isn't open – all because he owes $133,000.

FOX 29 tried asking Michael Klein, who rents out 11 units, about the delinquent dues Monday, but he wouldn't talk to us.

However, his tenants did talk. They say their condos are in horrible conditions with broken air conditioners and ovens as well as leaky pipes.

"I really hope his property is seized, and I would like to pay the sheriff. They need to give it to someone who is going to be a landlord and not a slumlord," one woman said.

And get this: FOX 29 has also learned that eight of Klein's condos have not been issued a certificate of occupancy by Cherry Hill Township.

That means he shouldn't be renting them anyway.

Klein would only say, off-camera, that claims made by his tenants are exaggerated.
