Pregnant Woman Gets Caught In Crossfire

PHILADELPHIA -

The ongoing gun violence continued Wednesday night in North Philadelphia, and a pregnant woman was caught in the crossfire.

Police say two men started shooting at each other near 22nd and North Bucknell streets just before 9 p.m.

Police officers happened to be nearby and heard the gunshots.

The woman, who is seven-months pregnant, was shot in the leg and was rushed to the hospital.

"This 26-year-old pregnant female was an innocent victim who happened to be caught in the crossfire. But we took her to Temple (University Hospital), we got her there fast. Hopefully here and her baby, her unborn child, are OK," Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

A 19-year-old man was shot in the arm. He was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

Police believe he may have been involved in a shooting earlier this month. They are reviewing police surveillance cameras on that street to identify the shooters.

Another man is in the hospital after he was shot three times in West Philadelphia. This shooting happened near 52nd and Race streets just before 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

The man was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he's listed in stable condition. Police have not made any arrests.
