Sixers Draft Harkless, Trade Up To Get Moultrie

Posted: Updated:

The 76ers went into the NBA draft needing a shooting guard and a power forward. They drafted in a different direction with their first pick.

They used the 15th overall selection on 19-year-old Maurice Harkless, a small forward who played just one season at St. John's. Harkless averaged 15.5 points and 8.6 rebounds in his freshman season with the Red Storm.

At 6'8", Sixers president Rod Thorn thinks Harkless will continue to grow and could eventually be a power forward. Still, his frame and game will remind Sixers fans of two players they already have in Andre Iguodala and Thaddeus Young.

With their next move, the Sixers did get a bigger presence by reportedly trading a future first-round pick and a second-rounder, No. 45, to the Miami Heat for Mississippi State's Arnett Moultrie.

Moultrie is 6'10" and averaged 16.5 points and 10.5 rebounds last season with Mississippi State.
