The Cole Hamels drama still looms over the Phillies.
The team's management has a choice: They can sign Hamels to an extension, trade him now, or let him finish the year and hope to sign him then.
The Phillies know somebody's going to offer him a lot of money this winter.
We talked Monday about national reports that said the Phillies were contacting other teams to gauge interest in a pre-deadline trade.
General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. responded to those reports later on Monday, telling the Philadelphia Inquirer, "Our goal, frankly, is to keep Hamels in our uniform, short term and long term."
Amaro also said he thinks it's a realistic possibility.

Today's weather? Cloudy, muggy, and eventually, stormy. If you get a strong to severe storm, it would probably be lat afternoon and evening. Highs in the upper 70s. Some of the storms will produce locally heavy rain and gusty winds.
This system is from the same cold front that caused the midwest tornadoes. It will also usher in cooler air for the holiday weekend.
