Firefighter Hurt In April Inferno Rescues Woman

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

You remember the Kensington warehouse inferno in April that killed two Philadelphia firefighters. Firefighter Fran Cheney was among two others injured in the fire.

Now, Cheney is back on the job, and on Wednesday morning he put himself in harm's way, rescuing a woman from a fire in Lawncrest.

Cheney raced to the second-floor bedroom of a burning rowhome on the 200 block of Higbee Street shortly after 5 a.m.

When he reached the occupant, he offered her his air mask.

The woman and three family members were unharmed.

Cheney, seen in file video during his first day back on the job after the York Street fire, was taken to Temple University Hospital in fair condition.

FOX 29's Bruce Gordon was live outside the hospital Wednesday night with the incredible story.

It was a soupy start today. We can expect many clouds, some sun, lots of humidity, and a chance of pop up showers any time. At least it'll be warmer: High around 80-degrees today.

The weather remains unsettled through most of the work week. Warm temps stick around, too. And we do mean stick...because it'll be humid, too.

By Thursday a cold front moves by bringing more rain.  It will also bring drier and cooler weather by Friday as we finally clear out.
