Gunman, 2 Victims Shot Moments Before Parkway Fireworks

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

The three teens were shot during the big July 4th concert on the Ben Franklin Parkway.

SkyFOX was over the scene where police say a 16-year-old shot two other teens near 16th and the parkway. One victim was a 17, while the other was 19.

Police apparently witnessed the second shooting and cornered the alleged 16-year-old gunman at 17th and JFK Boulevard. That's where police say the teen pointed his gun at them.

Police opened fire, and the teen was grazed by a bullet in his chest.

All three teens are hospitalized in stable condition.

Despite the chaos, the fireworks show on the Ben Franklin Parkway went on as planned.

Hundreds of thousands of people packed the parkway for the festivities. A spectacular array of fireworks lit up the sky over America's birthplace.

Queen Latifah performed at a free concert Thursday night on the Ben Franklin Parkway. Other big names included Common, Joe Jonas and surprise guest Lauryn Hill.

The concert is the grand finale to the 10-day Welcome America festival.

The shooting also happened very close to the site of an Occupy Wall Street rally. Protestors, who have been in town since Saturday, plan to start a 99-mile march to Wall Street from Philadelphia at 9 a.m. Thursday.

FOX 29's Chris O'Connell reported from the scene on Wednesday night, and Stephanie Esposito was live on the parkway Thursday morning with more details on what happened.
