One Dead, Several Injured During Soccer Tournament Shooting

Posted: Updated:
WILMINGTON, De. -

An annual soccer tournament in Wilmington's Eden Park turned into a chaotic and dangerous shootout scene with more than 50 shell casings found on the ground.

Police found a 16-year-old boy of Pike Creek suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.  A 47-year-old man from New Castle was shot in the chest and a 34-year-old man of Baltimore was hospitalized for a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

Two of the victims were listed in critical condition.    Police confirmed all three victims were taking part in the soccer tournament.

They say several parties were shooting at each other with the motive not yet known.

FOX29 talked with a couple that drove up to the tournament the minute bullets started flying.

"We ducked below the steering wheel.  When we came up there were 9 shots in the car," said Clayon Green.

Police say the suspects got away but later crashed the getaway car.  Two suspects ran off but officers and a K9 unit helped catch them.  Authorities found the last suspect dead in the vehicle after being shot several times.

Names of victims and suspects have not been released.  The case is still under investigation.
