FOX 29 Gets Results On Dialysis Patients' Air Conditioning Problem

Posted: Updated:
HUNTINGDON VALLEY -

With the temperatures again climbing in the 90s, dialysis patient Eileen Kuber and her daughter are a little hot under the collar.

"The temperature in there is horrible."

They say temperatures inside Eileen's local dialysis center are simply "too hot."

"Very stifling at times when it's hot," Eileen says. "The air conditioner does not work up to snuff."

Eileen suffers from kidney failure and heart disease. She undergoes dialysis treatment four days a week. She goes to the Davita Dialysis Center in Huntingdon Valley because it's close to her home. But she says the air conditioning has been acting up here for months.

"People are sitting there fanning themselves," she says. "The workers are complaining they're sweating."

"It's excruciatingly hard to breath in there," says Holly Kuber, who takes her mother for dialysis treatments and doctors appointments. She's worried about her mom's health.

"They blow fans in there to make you think it's okay air quality in there and it's not," Holly says.

Eileen Kuber and her daughter say they have complained to staff members and supervisors here at the dialysis center several times. They also say they've called county and health officials.

FOX 29 went to the dialysis center looking for answers. We were quickly told to leave because of patient rights issues. A supervisor told us a company official would contact us. The Kubers say they don't want any more promises, they just want the problem fixed before another heat wave hits.

"I'm past frustration," Eilen says. "I just want to be able to go somewhere, get my damn dialysis and be done with it and that's tough enough."

A spokesman for Davita extended an apology to it's patients and acknowledged the ac unit was not functioning properly. They called the situation "unfortunate" and "unacceptable."

They claim the air conditioning unit is now back up and working.
