Police Shoot Gunman Outside Baby Shower

Posted: Updated:

An argument outside a baby shower in Philadelphia's Olney section leads to a shoot-out.

Philadelphia police say around 1 o'clock Sunday morning, two officers driving near 2nd and Nedro Street saw a man shooting at an SUV, whose driver was shooting back.  When officers got out of their cruiser, the man, identified as 25-year-old Vanna Sok, turned around and pointed his gun at police. That's when one of the officers shot Sok in the head. He was taken to Einstein Medical Center where he is listed in extremely critical condition.

After the shooting, people started pouring from the home. Police say the situation quickly grew into an all out melee. Officers called for back-up, and one person in the crowd was tasered by police.

Then, around 9:45 on Sunday morning, Homicide Detectives issued a search warrant for a home on the 4600 block of Deveraux Ave. They believed the man inside was the driver of the SUV. After a brief stand-off with police, the man surrendered.

The situation is under investigation by Philadelphia's Internal Affairs unit.

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
