Center City Construction Is Waking Residents Early

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Residents along the 2100 block of Chestnut in Center City say the early morning construction on a high rise project is waking them up too early in the morning.

"It's like hell in the morning," said Steve Cohen of the RiverWest Condominiums across the street.  "Five minutes to six or five minutes after six we're awakened by clamoring and hammering and banging and concrete mixers pulling up," he added.

City of Philadelphia building rules require regular construction to be held between 7am and 8pm.  Our cameras were out just after 6am Monday when Hunter Roberts construction crews were at work.

We asked workers about it but they referred us to a site manager that was unavailable.  FOX29 then spoke with a construction manager at the Center City Hunter Roberts offices, however they said they could not talk because of the contract they have with the developer, The John Buck Company in Chicago.

We called The John Buck Company and left messages.  We called Philadelphia city officials as well.

They say the construction project already received a citation from the Air Management Services division for the early morning work, however the company has 30 days to appeal the citation.

Other city departments are looking into the issue as well.  FOX 29 will keep you updated.

It was a gloomy Sunday as the whole area remain socked in with low clouds & fog, drizzle and scattered showers.

The weather remains unsettled through most of the work week. The difference is that it will really warm up -- temperatures soar into the 80s by Tuesday.  That mild and humid air mass will fuel afternoon thunderstorms.

By Thursday a cold front moves by bringing more rain.  It will also bring drier and cooler weather by Friday as we finally clear out.
