Vandals Swipe Veteran's Flag

Posted: Updated:

For years Chuck Loughery has flown five American flags outside his Manayunk home.

He put his life on the line as a marine in WWII protecting the freedom they represent.

So when vandals broke them out of their holders and stole them late Friday night, the same night he was celebrating his 87-th birthday, neighbor Erin Turner was appalled.

"It's not just a cloth its something he fought and put his life on the line for and we should be respectful of really what it stands for," said Turner.

When Chuck's flags were torn down, the incident helped resurrect Erin's patriotism.

Now she and her husband Ed are spearheading their own Patriot Act to show solidarity for their Dexter street neighbor.

"We want to try and get all the block if they don't have a flag showing to suggest they put up a flag so they can be in solidarity with Chuck," said Ed Turner.

Neighbors are already giving the idea their seal of approval.

Jessica Morrison plans to do her part

Hoping the neighborhood will soon be united by their patriotic display for a veteran who not only risked his life overseas...but also here in Philadelphia as a former policeman.

"Definitely going to buy an American flag tomorrow," Morrison said. Its sad to see that. He's lived here all his life and it's like they have no respect for what people do for our  country.
