Lower Merion Township Police are warning residents about a string of home break-ins over the past 10 days. Burglars have hit homes in Penn Valley and the Merion section of the township.
Elizabeth Bien was out jogging Wednesday when she heard about it and says she's extremely concerned, especially since police say many are happening overnight.
"You assume if somebody comes in overnight they're not worried about being confronted so that means they're probably more aggressive," said Bien.
Lower Merion Township Police aren't saying how many homes have been hit or on what streets it's happening. But they say the number is growing.
Mike Silverman says Penn Valley had this problem last year too. He thinks it happens during the summer because people aren't home a lot.
Police want people to go the extra step to protect their property. They say residents should leave on outside lights, set timers and alarms inside, and tell neighbors or police when you'll be out of town so they can keep watch.
Silverman says above all that, his Pug-mix is his security.
"A friend of mine who is a police officer said the best thing you can have is a dog," says Silverman.
Residents can also sign up to get community alerts to their email or phone. Go to lowermerion.org, look under departments for police, then community notifications.

This pattern stays in place until Thursday, when strong thunderstorms usher in cooler air for the holiday weekend.
