Niece Confesses To Beating Aunt

Posted: Updated:

Police loaded up bags of evidence after a 56-year-old woman was  badly beaten in  her West Berlin, New Jersey  home.

The victim's niece, 28-year-old Tiffany Carpenter called 9-1-1 and told police her aunt was the victim of a home invasion and the suspect got away.

But apparently that wasn't the case.

Police say Carpenter phoned in the bogus story to cover up her  vicious attack.

"As investigators  were doing  interviews her  story started to unravel ultimately she gave a confession to crime," explained Berlin Township Police Chief Joseph Jackson.

Police say the  early morning attack at  127 Pine Street stemmed from an argument that got way out hand.

Chief Joseph Jackson says the victim suffered several blows to the head from a pipe-wrench.

The 56-year-old victim's injuries were so bad she had to be airlifted  to Cooper University Hospital.

Neighbors say there's a history of domestic issues a the house.

In fact Friday night, just before the attack, police had to diffuse another altercation between Carpenter and her aunt.

Carpenter is charged with attempted murder, second degree aggravated assault  and weapon possession.
