Hearing Held On Pennsylvania Voter ID Challenge

Posted: Updated:
HARRISBURG, Pa. -

Controversy is nearing a fever pitch over Pennsylvania's controversial voter identification law.

There was a hearing in Harrisburg on Wednesday challenging the law.

It will require all Pennsylvanians to show a state-approved photo ID at the polls this November.

The American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit to stop it.

Supporters of the law say it will stop fraud.

Opponents say it will silence a lot of registered voters, especially senior citizens who don't have birth certificates or Social Security cards.

Attorneys for the state say they're not trying to disenfranchise anyone. They're just trying to protect the voting process.

As Pennsylvania's tough new voter ID law gets its first legal test in Harrisburg, protesters took to the streets in Philadelphia.

About 50 people marched through Philadelphia's City Hall, some with tape over their mouths.

They say voters' rights are being taken away by requiring them to have a picture ID to vote in November.
