Owner Of Bare Feet Shoes Charged With Tax Fraud

Posted: Updated:

The owner of popular shoes store chain, Bare Feet Shoes, has been charged with tax fraud.

Owner Uri Jacobson, 41, and store manager Elena Falaschetti, 53 have been charged, in separate filings, with conspiracy by paying their employees under the table.

According to the indictment, between 2003 and 2009, Jacobson paid some of employees in while, or in part, "off the books."  Employees were encouraged to report false salaries and false hours to the company's payroll company.

Jacobson's records show that between 2004 and 2009, Bare Feet Shoes paid out $2,787,640 in gross wages.  These wages were not reported to the IRS - which means that federal income taxes, social security and Medicare taxes were not withheld and paid to the IRS.

If convicted of all charges, Jacobson faces a possible advisory sentencing guideline range of 24 to 30 months in prison, restitution to the IRS, plus possible fines and a special assessment of $600.    Falaschetti faces a possible advisory sentencing guideline range of 10 to 16 months in prison, restitution to the IRS, plus possible fines and a special assessment of $500.
