Dogs In Abandoned House Hassle North Phila. Neighbors

Posted: Updated:

The occasional loud barking dog can be enough to annoy anyone, but what about several dogs barking in an abandoned house next door?

Denise Jones of North Philadelphia's West Silver Street told FOX29 it has been a problem for her over several years.

She said the owner of the house next door does not live there, but keeps several dogs on the property and in filthy conditions, with the smell of urine seeping through her wall.

"My house is like a dog kennel," she said.  "I'm sick and tired."

Frustrated after calling Philadelphia's 311 line and several city officials, she contacted FOX29.

We contacted the Pennsylvania SPCA.  They immediately sent out offers to investigate the home, contacted the property owner, and forced the removal of the dogs from the property.

After their investigation, SPCA officers said the owner was keeping the dogs in the house to guard the property while they prepare for renovations.

The officers issued a warning and said they would seize the dogs if the problem repeats itself in the future.
