Police: Video Shows Men Attacking, Robbing Disabled Victim

Posted: Updated:
UPPER DARBY, Pa. -

The video is hard to watch.

Two men drag a 37-year-old Upper Darby handicapped man out of his wheelchair and across the floor of his apartment. They step on him and then proceed to rob him of a 55-inch flat screen television and other items, according to police.

"These guys truly were sadistic in their demeanor in robbing this guy," said Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood. "There was no way he could have defended himself."

Police said they quickly identified the guy leaving with the TV as 20-year-old Keenan Smith. They say it was 23-year-old Dominic Henderson who held the victim down with his foot, then ripped off his XBOX 360, along with video games and 35 oxycontin pills.

Henderson is under arrest, while Smith is on the run, police said.

Neighbors at the apartment complex where the attack and robbery took place last Thursday were shocked that this could to happen here.

"How low do you gotta be to do something like that," said neighbor John Dootavi.

"I think it was just awful. Terrible, terrible," another neighbor added.

"They should go to jail for a long time. They should," said a third.

Chitwood says the victim, who suffers from Muscular Dystrophy, allowed the men into his apartment after his cousin called asking for some of his prescription pain medication following a car accident.

"We believe it was a set up, absolutely," Chitwood explained.

Henderson was arrested after police spotted him on the street. None of the stolen items have been recovered. The victim, who police would not identify, was too shaken up to speak with reporters.

"Scared to death. I'm telling you he's in hiding; we know where he is, but scared to death," Chitwood added.

Police say both suspects have significant criminal records for robbery and other crimes. Henderson is being held on $50,000 bail. Police say Smith should be considered armed and dangerous.
