2 Hurt In Home Invasion; Used Police Car Shot Up Nearby

PHILADELPHIA -

Philadelphia police are investigating a home invasion in Cobbs Creek that left two people injured.

It happened around 3 a.m. on the 5600 block of Catherine Street.

An 87-year-old woman and her 60-year-old son, a Vietnam veteran, were hurt. Both were taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

The suspect got away with valuables and possibly prescription drugs.

Police say the victims knew the robber, and they're hoping to track down that individual soon.

Then, either the robber, thinking he saw a police officer, or by complete coincidence another crime went down just a block and a half up Catherine Street, at 59th Street. That's where a guy out on the sidewalk shot up a former, used police car being driven by a young man.

All 10 shots fired at the car missed the driver seat but not the car -- including on the driver's side and the rear -- as the motorist sped away for his life.

Just a few blocks from that scene, at 58th and Baltimore streets, the driver was pulled over by an actual police car because officers saw that the taillight was out.

The driver is OK, just shaken up and at Southwest Detectives as they wonder if he knew who was shooting at him.

FOX 29's Steve Keeley was at the scene Tuesday morning with more.
