Pool Slasher Scares Families In Mayfair

PHILADELPHIA -

Someone is slashing pools along Hellerman Street in Mayfair.

"I was mad at first, and I'm upset because it's not mine. It's my kids' pool, "said Resident Jim Carey.

Jim Carey says his front-yard pool was sliced sometime between midnight and 4 a.m. Tuesday.

"I got a phone call from my little son, Matthew, who is 7, and he was crying on the phone and said, 'I can't understand why anyone would do this. I haven't been mean to anyone.' They are upset and now what will they do the rest of the summer," said Carey.

Several doors down, resident Debbie Walsh shows us the patches on her pool. It was cut up on Friday the 13th. She say she built it for her 5-year-old granddaughter.

"Whoever doing it should be ashamed of themselves. Think of what you're taking away from the kids," said Debbie Walsh.

Residents say eight pools have been slashed here in the past two weeks. They are now keeping a close eye out for the person responsible, and some are talking about putting cameras up, concerned about safety.

"I think it's pathetic," said Walsh.

"I don't know if it's kids being bad or something personal against people who have pools in their yard," said Carey.

The Carey's have put their pool out every summer for the past five years. This is the first time this has happened to them. But Debbie Walsh says it's happened to her a number of times over the years, and she's fed up.

Pools like these cost around $350 and are expensive to repair and they are out so children can enjoy summer, especially when it's extremely hot.

"Just stop, it's the kids, for the kids, just stop it's mean to kids," said Carey.

It was a gloomy Sunday as the whole area remain socked in with low clouds & fog, drizzle and scattered showers.

The weather remains unsettled through most of the work week. The difference is that it will really warm up -- temperatures soar into the 80s by Tuesday.  That mild and humid air mass will fuel afternoon thunderstorms.

By Thursday a cold front moves by bringing more rain.  It will also bring drier and cooler weather by Friday as we finally clear out.
