SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

Kaskade is a superstar in the electronic dance music genre, basking in the sudden main stream popularity. Now he's upped the ante by becoming the first solo EDM musician to headline and sell out the Staples Center Arena in Los Angeles with his "Freaks of Nature" tour.

The tour makes a stop the Filmore downtown on August 4.

"This is just an indication of things to come," says Kaskade. "Playing at Staples Center, being able to sell it out, I think there's more people behind me that will be able to do this."

It's a scene that has been incubating in the underground for the last two decades and the Chicago-bred DJ-producer is shocked at it's fast rise to fame.

"I mean yeah it's crazy. I'm still in shock, I mean, every day, I'm like this can't continue to get more popular and get bigger," says Kaskade. "I mean I was so used to it being just underground and playing smaller clubs with you know a very specific kind of boutique sound that was catered to a smaller crowd but over the years it just continues to grow and grow. And I mean its awesome. Because I've played large festivals overseas but to see it happen over here in America has been just a treat."

The 41-year-old has spent the last 10 years building a name for himself, releasing of seven albums, nine top 10 hits on the billboard hot dance charts, and creating several chart-topping remixes for Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and Beyonce.

And if all this makes you curious, the night was captured for a DVD to be released later this year.
