Delaware Family Struck by Lightning

Posted: Updated:

A family of four is recovering tonight in a Delaware hospital after they survived a lightning strike from a fast moving storm.

The strike happened at the Cranston Hill Apartments on Old Capitol Trail around 4:30 Friday afternoon.   A worker from the complex said he saw the lightning. The umbrella which the family was seeking shelter underneath---was blown away by the strike.  The family was eating dinner outside at the time.  The mother is pregnant and her two boys approximately 2 and 4 years of age, according to the witness.

The family was conscious and alert as they were taken to the hospital.  The woman's arm was swollen and red and the older boy was on the ground crying.  The father and the younger boy did not appear to be injured.
