Teen Struck By Vehicle Overnight

Middle Township Police are investigating an accident where a teenager was struck on Route 9 overnight while riding a skateboard.

The incident happened just before 1 AM on US Route 9 in the Mayville section of Middle Township. The skateboarder, an unidentified 15 year old who was heading northbound. The driver that struck the teen was heading southbound. The investigation states that the driver of the vehicle, Samuel Caraballo 3rd, entered the northbound lanes to pass a vehicle in front of him in a passing zone. In going into the northbound lanes however, Caraballo struck the juvenile in the lanes. The vehicle veered off the road and struck a utility pole.

The 15 year old suffered serious injuries and was flown to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center and is listed in critical condition. Caraballo remained on scene at time of the accident and was not injured. Caraballo was driving on a suspended license at the time of the accident. He was charged with Causing Serious Bodily Injury During a Motor Vehicle Accident While Driving Suspended, a 4th degree crime. He also faces a summons for Driving While Suspended and Driving after Hours for a Provisional Driver. He was released on his own recognizance.

The investigation into the incident is on-going.

    It was a gloomy Sunday as the whole area remain socked in with low clouds & fog, drizzle and scattered showers.

    The weather remains unsettled through most of the work week. The difference is that it will really warm up -- temperatures soar into the 80s by Tuesday.  That mild and humid air mass will fuel afternoon thunderstorms.

    By Thursday a cold front moves by bringing more rain.  It will also bring drier and cooler weather by Friday as we finally clear out.
