Chicago's Most Wanted: Gang member who caused deadly traffic accident

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

This was a tragic accident that happened on the 4th of July in 2006.  Jaime Rios, who was out on bond after Chicago police arrested him on drug charges, was out driving around when he saw another vehicle that he mistakenly thought contained rival gang members.

Rios, the FBI believes, rammed that vehicle, sending it crashing into a tree near 55th and Lawndale.  Two sixteen year old girls in that car were ejected and killed, and three other young adults were injured in the crash.  Rios is wanted on a federal warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution on the drug charges.  He is also wanted for questioning in connection with the traffic accident that resulted in the deaths of the two young women.

Jaime Rios, who is 29 now, is confined to a wheelchair.  He himself was injured in a gang-related shooting several years before this incident.  As a result he is paralyzed from the waist down. Agents believe at the time of the deadly ramming incident he was in possession of a modified van that allows him to drive, and there's a good chance he has some similar vehicle these days.

There have not been any recent sightings. Rios, whose last known address was in the 5100 block of South Trumbull, is the subject of a nationwide manhunt. He has been reported in the past to be in the New Orleans area, as well as possibly in Central America-San Salvador to be specific.

But he does have ties to the Chicago area. Agents say with the passage of time he may have become comfortable enough to return . That's why they're asking people to be on the lookout for him and contact us if they know of his whereabouts.

The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of Jaime Rios. Because of his physical condition, it believes there's a good chance if he is around here, people will know who he is.
Here is the FBI's description of Jaime Rios:

  • 29 years old.
  • 5'7''.
  • 130 pounds.
  • Black hair, brown eyes, light complexion.
  • He has a large surgical scar on his abdomen.
  • He often goes by the nicknames J-Dog and Jimmy Rios.
  • He is paralyzed from the waist down and uses a wheelchair.

He is considered armed and dangerous, if you see him call police.
