Exclusive: Philly Cops Seize 23 Illegal Street Bikes

Posted: Updated:

Philadelphia Police sent a strong message to illegal ATV street riders with a sting that seized nearly two dozen ATVs and quad bikes on Sunday.

"We're taking the streets back for the citizens of Philadelphia," said Detective Jack Logan who worked on the bust.

23 ATVs were confiscated as part of an effort that lasted several hours, in and around the city's Kensington section.

FOX29 has done extensive reporting on how ATV riders have ripped through busy city streets, weaving in and out of traffic and even speeding down major highways.  Driving these vehicles on city streets is against the law.

Logan said the seized bikes are valued between $3,500 and $7,500.  Some had slick artwork and one was stolen, he said.

Police said none of the bikes will be going back on the streets anytime soon.
