Brazen Popeyes Fast-Food Employees Foil Robbery

Posted: Updated:

"I thought the other guy I was working with was playing a prank," said an employee, laughing a day after an attempted armed robbery.

None of the employees at the Popeyes on City Avenue expected a robber to come in through the back door when they were cleaning up before closing early Sunday morning. Until...

"All I felt was he put a gun right in the back of my neck," said the employee who doesn't want to be identified by name. Surveillance cameras caught the whole thing, as the robber came in and took the employees at gunpoint right to the safe. The employee who doesn't want to give his name had the lead role in foiling the robbery.

"When he kept pointing with the gun saying take all this money, then that's when I reached for the gun."

That's when an all out brawl ensued. Employees pummeled the would be robber with his own gun, their fists, even a broom stick. Except Ashley Dunbar who says she was scared and thought her life was over.

"He just looked me in my eye and was like don't run," but Ashley says when the fight broke out that was her chance to get away. She's seen in the video making an escape.

"That was my time to go," she said.

In the end the guy got away. General Manager Muhammad Zaman says not with any money though only a bad beating.

"The blood was everywhere outside in the parking lot," says Zaman. "
