3 Arrested After Pursuit Ends in Port Richmond

Posted: Updated:

Police from Delaware County have three suspects in custody after a pursuit during rush hour on Interstate 95 ends in Port Richmond.

Authorities say that a retail theft occurred at Rite Aid in Woodlyn on MacDade Boulevard. Two women stole approximately $300 in products at the store before fleeing in a white minivan. A store employee was able to write the plate information down and alert police. The vehicle that the suspects fled in matched a vehicle reported stolen in New Castle, Delaware.

Police pursued the vehicle, which in the chase tried ramming a police cruiser as well as hit another officer laying out spike strips. That officer suffered a minor hand injury while getting to safety.

Pennsylvania State Police and Philadelphia Police joined in the pursuit that went north on Interstate 95 past the airport and Center City. The fleeing vehicle exited the highway at the Allegheny Avenue exit where it eventually stopped at Joyce and East Westmoreland Streets.

The suspects have not been identified at this time and face numerous charges including retail theft and aggravated assault on a police officer with a vehicle, among others.
