Police in Upper Providence Township, Delaware County, are searching for the man who they say scammed a little old lady who suffers from Alzheimer's. Investigators say they have the photos to prove it.
The suspect didn't appear to be at all concerned when he showed up at a bank in Media last Wednesday. Surveillance cameras caught him with the woman inside the bank, as she withdrew hundreds of dollars. Police are hoping those images will land the man in jail. "We have some beautiful shots of him, which we would love someone to put an ID to him, that's for sure," Sgt. Michael Langdale of the Upper Providence Police Department told Fox 29.
The victim's daughter, who Fox 29 is not identifying to protect the identity of her mother, explained how it happened. "She was outside looking around at the yard, and he pulled up and just said, I fixed your roof, I fixed your chimney." Then he demanded payment. "He says it'll be $600," Sgt. Langdale said. "She says, well I don't have that money here, he said well I'll take you to the bank." So she climbed into his pickup truck and went to the bank with him. In one surveillance photo, you can actually see him staring at the cash in her hand.
The man never did any work on her roof or her chimney, but clearly counted on her confusion to take advantage of her. "I hope he has a mother and he feels such guilt for doing something like that to somebody who's so vulnerable," the victim's daughter said. "It's a crime against community, it's a crime against family, he's got to be stopped," she continued. She pleaded with anyone who recognizes the man to please call police. "He's probably done this before, probably done this to people who don't even remember it happened."
