Posted: Updated:

Delaware State Police have arrested a Milford man for Driving Under the Influence after a brief police pursuit over the weekend.

Police on routine patrol noticed a driver going above the speed limit on Coastal Highway (State Route 1) and Sylvan Acres Road. Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop and pull the driver over but the driver fled and was driving erratically in between traffic. A brief pursuit ensued before the driver lost control and hit a construction sign and fence. The driver then fled on foot before being detained by police nearby. The driver was not injured in the incident.

The driver is identified as Josephi Anastasi and charged with Driving Under the Influence, Resisting Arrest, Driving While Suspended, Speeding and other traffic related charges. It is Anastasi's fifth arrest for DUI, the first dating back to February 1992. He is currently held at Sussex Correctional Institution on $11,579 cash bail.
