Overturned Fruit Truck Caused Big Mess On I-76

PHILADELPHIA -

Traffic was moving Tuesday night on the Schuylkill Expressway like it normally does during rush hour when it's raining, slow but not at a standstill.

What a difference from earlier in the day.

Around 9 a.m., a tractor-trailer flipped over, completely blocking the eastbound lanes near South Street.

You could call it a waterfall of citrus.

PennDOT crews worked for the rest of the morning and into the afternoon to help clean up the scene, dumping thousands of tangerines into a truck after a tractor-trailer spilled its load on to eastbound lanes of Interstate 76.

Some managed to avoid it. Others had to be turned around even as crews were cleaning up.

The craziness tied up the morning drive and shut down a portion of the highway for several hours as crews dealt with the truck and then the produce.

They got the tangerines off I-76 and moved them over to an exit that had to be shut down as well so they could deal with it there, FOX 29's David Kinchen reported from the scene.
