Heroic Rescue Of Girl On Train Tracks At Market East Station

PHILADELPHIA -

Only on FOX: SEPTA employees jump into action to save a young girl who fell on the tracks.

"Very dangerous situation, very," said a SEPTA conductor after the chaotic scene at the Market East Station on Tuesday morning as employees raced to save the child.

"I heard all this screaming and yelling and I was six cars back," said conductor Lisa Wilkins.

Startled passengers looked on as Lisa Wilkins and assistant conductor Bobby Jackson scrambled to reach the 4-year-old after she fell through the gap between the train and the platform. Jackson went straight to the tracks

"He was already there, down, popped the trap, ran down got the baby brought her up," Wilkins explained.

"The father started instantly freaking out, the conductor came running from this side, another came running from this side," said one passenger who witnessed the rescue.

Passenger Becca Svoboda says it took Jackson, Wilkins and a SEPTA police officer just seconds to save the girl.

Wilkins, a 22-year veteran conductor, says Jackson's actions were nothing short of amazing.

"I was really impressed by how SEPTA responded and got there," Svoboda said.

"Bobby is a great conductor, and he was heroic today. He worked ... like three seconds he got that baby," wilkins added.

The hysterical little girl was quickly handed to her father, who tried to comfort her after being rescued from imminent danger on the rails. She suffered some scrapes and bruises.

"I feel good today. It could have been a lot worse," said Wilkins.

"They moved so quickly and so efficiently. It made me wonder how often does this happen . Clearly they train for it," a thankful Svoboda said.
