Violating Pa. Voter ID Law Could Mean Jail Time

PHILADELPHIA -

A Pennsylvania judge on Wednesday upheld the new state law that requires voters to show valid photo identification before casting a ballot.

You can bring a drivers license, military ID, or government employee ID.

And the state will be required to provide voters with free ID cards if they don't have any of those.

The law will be tested for the first time on Election Day, Nov. 6.

If you don't think you'll be able to get the right type of ID before the election you can ask for a provisional ballot at the polls. You'll vote on paper and then have a few days to prove who you are to your county.

The ACLU immediately started talking about an appeal.

It's a really polarizing issue, and this law has got some teeth to back it up.

If poll workers knowingly allow someone to vote without an I.D. the department of state says they'll face jail time.

And don't think that the punishment for voter fraud is just for poll workers. People attempting to vote more than once or as someone else face the same penalties, FOX 29's Stephanie Esposito reported.
