NEW YORK -

Atlantic City is on fire! Well, it's actually just a movie set ... and it's really in New York. Take a look.

This was a staged explosion on the set of HBO's "Boardwalk Empire," a show about Atlantic City, N.J., in the 1920s.

The explosion sending orange flames high into the sky over Brooklyn on Thursday night.

FDNY and NYPD crews were on hand to supervise.

The show, which stars Steve Buscemi as political boss Enoch "Nucky" Thompson, films in Brooklyn because producers say it's easier and cheaper for crews to build a new boardwalk than use the real one in Jersey.

"Boardwalk Empire" returns for its third season on HBO on Sept. 16.
