PHILADELPHIA -

Philadelphia police say an off-duty police officer was shot multiple times and killed early Saturday morning in North Philadelphia during what may have been an attempted robbery.

The 22nd District officer was shot on the 2200 block of Cecil B. Moore Avenue around 5:50 a.m.

According to police, the officer was walking to public transportation after his shift in plain clothes with a backpack when he was shot. His duty weapon was found under his body.

The officer was rushed to Hahnemann University Hospital but succumbed to his injuries around 6 a.m.

After notifying family, police identified the victim as Officer Moses Walker Jr., a 19-year veteran of the force.

According to police, Walker was offered a ride home by a co-worker but said "It's a nice night. I'll walk."

Walker is also a minister at Deliverance Evangelistic Church, located at 20th Street and West Lehigh Avenue. He's survived by his mother and five siblings.

Cousins tell FOX 29's Stephanie Esposito that Walker was born and raised in Philly and comes from a family of police officers.

A source tells FOX 29 News there was a witness who saw the gunman, described only as a black male, running from the scene. Police are looking for surveillance video in the area to see if he was caught on tape.

A $20,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to an arrest, and an additional $10,000 is being offered by the Fraternal Order of Police in the case.

Late Saturday morning, police lined up to process Walker's body from the hospital to the medical examiner's office.

Walker is the seventh member of Philadelphia's forced killed in four years. Police just removed mourning linens this week for Officer Brian Lorenzo, who was riding his motorcycle when he was killed by an alleged drunken driver going the wrong way on Interstate 95.
