Police 'Looking For 1 Or 2 Suspects' In Officer's Killing

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

The search continues this morning for the person who shot and killed Philadelphia Police Officer Moses Walker Jr.

The 19-year-old police force veteran was walking home after his shift Saturday morning in North Philadelphia when he was shot multiple times. Police believe it may have been an attempted robbery.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey, as he arrived for work on Monday morning, shared the latest on the investigation.

"Our homicide investigators and others worked throughout the night trying to locate individuals who are known to be in that area in early-morning hours to talk to them to see if they saw anything," Ramsey said. "We'll continue that today."

"As of now, we don't have anything really concrete, but we are looking for one or two suspects that may have been involved in this. And, again, it still looks like perhaps robbery was a motive. We don't know for sure," Ramsey added.

The police commissioner added, "Everybody can fall victim to this. I mean anybody can, I should say. You know, our streets are getting pretty violent right now. And we're doing everything we can to stop it. Our homicides and shootings are up this year compared to last, as you well know. This is just one more tragic incident. But every loss of life is tragic, and every single family that's involved in this is grieving. Our police family grieving like those other families are grieving."

Police are expecting to hold a news conference later on Monday morning with an update on the investigation. You can watch that live by clicking here.

Walker's family held a vigil Sunday night at the spot where he was gunned down.

The reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of Walker's killer is now up to $35,000. Call 215-686-tips if you know anything.

Investigators are checking tips and working on some leads. They are looking at surveillance video to see if the shooter was caught on tape.

Funeral arrangements are still pending.
