SW Philly Residents Want Abandoned House Torn Down

Posted: Updated:
Southwest Philadelphia -

Residents in one Southwest Philadelphia neighborhood say an abandoned house owned by the City of Philadelphia should have been torn down months ago.

Mildred Cliett and others say city workers posted signs in late March saying the home would be torn down in 90 day, but that never happened.

Instead the home, abandoned for 10 years, has been left to rot as a giant hole formed in the ceiling of the garage.  Eventually it caved in.

"It's getting worse and worse," Cliett said.

"It's actually starting to fall apart because no one is there," said Donya Cliett, another family member.

What's more, they say raccoons, cats and other animals have been running wild in and around the abandoned property.

Frustrated, they called FOX29 to Get Results.  We called the city's Department of Licenses and Inspections.  A representative there said they would be happy to send someone out to examine the home.

We also have calls into the city's Department of Public Property.  Residents say they want the house either torn down or sealed up.  FOX29 will keep working to Get Results.
