Local Parents Of 6 Take In Victim's 3 Children

Posted: Updated:
CHESTER SPRINGS, Pa. -

Only on FOX: The story of a woman stepping up to care for her best friend's children after a violent murder tore their family apart.

Back in March, Kimberly Hvizda was stabbed to death in the parking lot of a Chester Springs Wawa where she worked.

Her husband is now facing life in prison for the crime.

So, friends Kim and Steve Fuimano – themselves already parents of six – took in the three children to raise as their own.

"It's just something we didn't even think about. It had to be done. We wanted to do it," Steve Fuimano said.

"She would have did it for me. We always say it's half of what she would have done for us," Kim Fuimano said.

The Fuimano's are hoping to win full custody, but that will have to wait until after James Hvizda's murder trial.

You can imagine the financial burden the family is under. On Tuesday night, friends are holding a fundraiser to help the Hvizda children and to help buy a new 12-passenger van to transport the family.

The event is at Liberty Union Bar And Grill in Chester Springs from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.

FOX 29's Chris O'Connell has more details in this video report.
