Survey Has Philly, A.C. Among Nation's Least Honest Cities

Posted: Updated:

Apparently women are more honest than men, redheads are more honest than blonds and brunettes and men with beards are more honest than bald men – all findings from a social experiment that examined the most honest cities in the U.S.

The National Honesty Index, organized by the Honest Tea company, ranked the honesty of cities, gender, business districts and sports fans, among other categories.

The survey was conducted at more than 50 unmanned pop-up kiosks in more than 30 cities across the country. Organizers of the study say the kiosks were stocked with Honest Tea beverages for $1 per bottle. Payment was based on the honor system.

According to the results, Philadelphians ranked near the bottom of the list of honest cities, with an 89 percent honesty rate. Atlantic City residents were 91 percent honest, while Seaside Heights, N.J. ranked among the top 10 at 97 percent honesty.

Oakland, Ca. topped the list with 100 percent honesty.

"Though our experiment might not pass muster with a social scientist, the results present fascinating and fun insights about the American population," Seth Goldman, President and TeaEO of Honest Tea said in a statement.

The complete Honesty Index is available on the National Honesty Index website.
