Just before 4:00 p.m., the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force took a person of interest in the murder of Police Officer Moses Walker into custody.
He was immediately transported to police headquarters. Police are not ready at this point to go public with the identities of these two men caught on tape before Walker's murder.
No charges have been filed.
"We've got very good detectives, they build cases, they know what they're doing and they will be successful with this one as well," Commissioner Charles Ramsey told reporters.
Commissioner Ramsey says homicide detectives are still building their case against the two men seen walking on 19th Street just before the murder. Police say they stalked Officer Walker as he headed home from work, approached him at gunpoint in an attempted robbery and then shot him to death.
"Whoever they are we need to get them just as quickly as possible before they rob and harm someone else. Because it's going to happen," Ramsey said.
The near record $118,000 reward has generated lots if tips, and while sources say police have put names to these faces, that is not enough for an arrest at this time.
"A name is direction," Ramsey said, "but with that, now you've got to build evidence and unless the name comes along with a couple eyewitnesses then you've got work to do. That's pretty typical of these cases."
In the meantime, officers continue to search for more evidence as they stop people on the street near the murder scene.
Crime scene investigators searched unsuccessfully for the murder weapon in fields along the killers escape route. Ramsey says homicide investigators want the strongest case they can muster against the killers.
"You have to get enough information, probable cause to convince the district attorney to justify charging," Ramsey explained.
Winter Weather Advisories take effect for our northwestern countines Sunday afternoon through early Monday morning. Snow will overspread the area from south to north Sunday afternoon.
The snow will bring light accumulations of 1-3" before mixing with sleet and rain by evening. Eventually the mix will become all rain.
Rain lingers into Monday morning washing away any accumulation. However, watch for icy roads Sunday night.
