Police Officer Shot Outside Suburban Swim Club

CHALFONT, Pa. -

A police officer was shot early Monday morning in Chalfont, Pa., while stopping a vehicle outside the Lenape Valley Swim & Tennis Club.

Three-year veteran officer John Cousin was treated at Abington Memorial Hospital and released a few hours later.  He was wearing a bullet-proof vest.

Police are setting up roadblocks around the borough and in surrounding communities, trying to find a older-model maroon Oldsmobile Cutlass with a damaged, dented bumper.

Two men and a woman were reported to be inside the car as the officer stopped near it around 3 a.m. in the swim club's parking lot on Westview Avenue, right off Main Street in Chalfont.

The officer noted as he pulled up behind the car that it had some team or college sticker on the rear window.

But the officer had little time to react because that's when one of the guys suddenly pulled out a gun and shot him in the chest, police said.

The search for that vehicle continues, and more investigators are continuing to show up at the shooting scene on the swim and tennis club grounds, FOX 29's Steve Keeley reported.
